GENERAL TESTIMONIALS HEBREW BOOKS:
I totally love every one of this author’s books. How does she make Hebrew seem learnable? I’m continuously amazed. Meanwhile, I’m steadily building my vocabulary and also my understanding of the grammar from the books. Wherever I have a place where I am likely to sit in my house, I have one of the books in this series. I feel hugely grateful to this author. What an amazing teacher. – Suzanne
The best book that will gradually teach you how to speak Hebrew. Everything you say is explained in a way that it will seep right through your blood and become part of you. Lots of exercises and answers. – T.T
I just LOVE working with your books!! My hebrew tutor does too. Please keep em coming as they are such a blessing!!! So practical too. You are a truly gifted author/teacher. – S.M
I’ve purchased and been studying every one of her books. They are fun reads, and excellent ways to consolidate basic Hebrew skills.
I keep one of her books in almost every room in the house, for reading a page here and a page there multiple times a day. – D.O
This book is amazing. I have been studying Hebrew off and on for a few years. This was the first book that made everything click instantly. If you do the exercises and don’t skip ahead, you will be proficient in reading by the end of the book. This book is a winner! – T.G
These books by Ruti Yudovich are absolutely wonderful. Such an engaging and a most fun way of learning Hebrew!!! I truly love them!!!! These books have been such a valuable tool on my Hebrew journey!!! – T.T
I started with the primer and am just finishing intermediate book one. Her books give me good practice in reading, grammar, etc. My favorite series! I am going on to the next book! – M.G
Love all of Ruti’s Hebrew books!
This book lays a good foundation for the learning of Hebrew. Having studied Hebrew through a formal online class, the information in this book greatly reinforced what I had already learned and provided the grammatical rules and language constructs that were not presented as thoroughly in the online class.
– D.H
I’m a big fan of Ruti Yudovich’s approach to learning Hebrew. She has the unique ability to inspire conversational confidence while building a solid understanding of WHY certain grammatical structures appear without making things too complicated for the beginning students. Vocabulary and verb usage builds and expands in this edition. Absolutely LOVE all of her books and am immensely grateful for her contributions to my own dream of learning Modern Hebrew fluently. Can’t give her books enough praise or recommend them highly enough! – S.A
Ruti Yudovich has written another book in her Hebrew learning series. The newest book expands on the previous books giving the student an even broader range of knowledge of modern Hebrew language. It is recommended to begin with the first book then progress to the current book. – D.A
Though classroom teaching and learning is a great way to learn Hebrew, the traditional method is not always accessible due to time constraints, distance to classes or the availability of Hebrew classes in your area. There are many excellent books, audio recordings and videos that teach elements of Hebrew language, however, Ruti’s book series differs in that it is completely self teaching. – M.Y
Now, with Ruti’s book series you can learn Hebrew on your own and in your own time. Speak Hebrew for real Beginner consists of exercises in which the student can practice previously learned material. As always, there are also grammar lessons that coordinate nicely with the exercises. The student will also begin to learn to read Hebrew without their written vowels (nekoodot). – D.H
Never went to Hebrew school. Not Jewish but have always had a fascination with languages and doesn’t hurt that my significant other is Jewish, so extra motivation to learn. I admit this book was much more challenging than the primer but things really started clicking in this book. I also love that the author slowly does away the vowels and it’s not all at once. By the end of the book I was familiar with the words being vowel less! Still have more to learn and improve on. Will definitely get the rest of the series. – R.M
Ruti Yudovich is an excellent teacher. She helps you navigate to speak like an Israeli. All of her books are alive and breathing with the Hebrew language as it is used and actually spoken. This is the best way to learn and speak Hebrew. I am very grateful to her. – M.A
Learning Hebrew from scratch with Ruti Yudovich’s books has been an incredible journey. Starting with the ABCs and progressing to confident conversations, her series has made Hebrew approachable and enjoyable. The gradual learning curve, engaging stories, and cultural insights offer a comprehensive language experience. What sets Ruti apart is her personal touch—she encourages embracing mistakes and adds humor to the lessons. I’ve giggled my way through the complexities of Hebrew, and now, from reading to speaking, I owe my confidence to Ruti’s books. Highly recommended for a fun and effective language adventure. – C.W
As I reflect on my language-learning experience, I can confidently say that Ruti Yudovich’s Hebrew books have played a pivotal role in my success. From fumbling through the alphabet to speaking with ease, I owe a significant part of my Hebrew proficiency to the thoughtful guidance and engaging content of Ruti’s books. Highly recommended for anyone embarking on the enriching journey of learning Hebrew. – G.S
Finally a book (Hebrew Binyanim Made Easy, The Missing Link) that explains Binyanim in plain English! So many text books try to explain these in a very academic way which for me was just inaccessible. Even some of my Israeli friends struggle to explain it!. – M.S
Kudos to the author – this book is an essential part of learning Modern Hebrew – everything suddenly clicked when I read it, and already my Hebrew has moved up a level. Once you understand the Binyanim you just need to learn the roots, as if you understand how to manipulate the roots you can easily find the word you need. Highly recommended! – H.R
I really like this book (Hebrew, When to Say What) . Ruti Yudovich has nailed a lot of problems that native English speakers run into when they try to express themselves in Hebrew the way a native Israeli would. She provides good examples, and it is engagingly written. I onIy wish it were longer and more comprehensive. There are some annoying editorial mistakes, but they don’t interfere with the utility of this marvelous little book. Kol ha’kvod! – I.R
Fantastic book! (Hebrew, When to Say What) It finally clarified so many questions I had about these so needed entries. I love the fact that each entry has at least 3 sentence examples. No English Dictionary has it. Each sentence IS translated. So no confusion! And some of the entries even have exercises. This is quite impressive. This book is wonderful for anyone who learns Hebrew as a second language and it is a great GIFT idea. It is like a dictionary you want to have at home. – K.S
A delightful book! (Speak Hebrew For Real, Intermediate I) It concentrates on the present tense with lots of enjoyable Hebrew dialogues and stories at an understandable level. I really enjoyed listening to the audio and reading the Hebrew content. It is clear it is written by an author and not just a language teacher. But really excellent at both! The language used really seems like something I can use in day to day conversations. C.W
GENERAL TESTIMONIALS NOVELS:
Ruti Yudovich has that rarest of talents — she is a wonderful story-teller who passes the test of the great novelist: the ability to tell the most intimate of stories against the background and sweep of overwhelming earth-shattering events. The Jewish Gypsy is an epic, in the grand tradition of Gone With The Wind, War and Peace and The Winds of War. Her characters are alive, passionate, cruel, sacrificing, sensuous, and above all, real. So real in fact, that while reading I found myself talking to them, scolding them, cheering for them and last night actually dreaming about them. I read the last one hundred or so pages at a gallop, forgetting food and breaking appointments to find out what happens on the next page, then the next and the next. My only question now is: When does the movie come out? – M.L
A beautifully written book! Ruti’s writing is magical – she has a unique way to bring the characters to life. This is one of those novels that you just can’t put down. – D.G
This was the best book I’ve read in a long time! I couldn’t put it down! The story got me involved instantly and kept me thoroughly entranced. Phenomenal character display! Very true to life! Great intrigue, unique morality and ethics. I loved it!!!!! – A.K
Previously I had read about the special concentration camp built to fool the Red Cross, and I know something about the history of Israel, but I really knew next to nothing about the Gypsies. Thus was I intrigued by Ruti’s Gypsy and Jewish (and German) characters, their dilemmas and interactions. I had to use self-discipline to stop reading when my 20 minutes in the tub was up, and also not to peek at the ending before I got there! I look forward to more wonderful novels from Ruti! – M.L
Once in while, you come across a book that sweeps you into its storyline and stays with you, long after you’ve read it. Ruti Yodovich’s The Jewish Gypsy is one of these books. – D.L
An enchanting story about love and strength in times of war, it weaves a complicated plot about Nadia, a Gypsy teenager, and the difficult choices she is forced to make, when World War II interrupts her carefree life in Czechoslovakia. The characters and their complex relationships are skillfully written and so is the scene-work. You can’t help but connect with Nadia and the other characters in the book, and cheer for them. – M.P
An enchanting book, beautifully written, and easy to follow, in spite of its sophisticated plot. It’s a tale of love, loss, relationships, loyalty, human dilemmas in the face of adversity, and most of all – about the incredible strength of the human spirit, even at the darkest moments in history. – R.L
As an Israeli and a Jew I have read many holocaust books. I have never read a story from the Gypsy viewpoint. I loved the book with all the twists turns. I loved the passionate characters that really went through hell and survived with love as motivation. I recommend this book and hope it will one day become a movie. – E.R
I HATE TO SAY GOODBYE:
A very good read. A very different book. You probably have never read one like this. I recommend it. It will give you some interesting ideas. – S.B
I was definitely drawn to the title, and not just because I happen to agree with it. Goodbyes can be heart-tearing. Goodbyes should be charismatic, like in the movies. Ruti’s chapters read like vivid scenes from a “Capraesque” film. Very cinematic. – G.L
An engaging book as told through the eyes of a young girl as she grew up in a farming village in Israel, near Jordan, during a harrowing time when the young nation was struggling to survive.
The spiritually precocious Rimi interacts fully with her world and the people she shares it with, come what may. She reminds us that experience and connection is why we are here, and the further we are removed from those simple facts, the less joy and peace are to be found.
She hates to say goodbye, because the connections she makes, even if not fully reciprocated, become like parts of her whole. Saying goodbye to a beloved teacher or friend becomes as if she were saying goodbye to a hand or a leg.
The book is also a gentle caution to the adults of this world, for them to try to remain mindful that words, actions, and strong negative emotions can impact children in unexpectedly strong ways, particularly those who are sensitive and whose hearts are wide open with love.
The story also reminds us that although the world, with its chaos and carnage and confusion, can be a brutal place, there are little sparks of hope that can lessen the suffering for everyone. Little sparks like the child Rimi in this story.
– L.L
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. One grows to fall in love with the characters and not to like some of the others. It is so real like you are there. Much more than a novel it really gives one a perspective of the history of the time period and is the sort of book that should be read in schools to teach understanding of our fellow man and also that a person can create beauty and enjoyment from anything. It really is all around us.
The life lessons in here are astounding and kudos to Ruti for getting them out of trying times and then to apply them in life. For me I would have much preferred to read this in school for life lessons that are relevant today and always will be.
– H.R
First of all, I loved this book. This is not just Remi’s story but every Jewish child with parents who survived the Holocaust. As the children of survivors, we had different experiences then our friends whose parents were not involved in it. Though the family is Israeli, it is a book that all would enjoy as it not only gives insight into how life in Israel was but there are many cultures who have had similar experiences. My family did not wind up in Israel but if I closed my eyes I felt like Ruti was telling the story of my family. I have never been to Israel and am going next year. After reading ‘I Hate to Say Goodbye‘I look forward to visiting my homeland even more. Thank you, Ruti, for sharing your beautiful, interesting, and well written story with us. – O.M
When I was reading “I Hate to Say Goodbye“, I was so immersed into the characters that it was as if I’d met them in real life. I shared they joys and their sadness, their fears and their hopes, and I lived their losses as if they were mine. I felt it was a family of friends that I’d known for many years and I loved the father in the story as if he had played with me too when I was a child. The landscapes and places, the description of events, were vivid. It’s a book that stays with you a long time after you’ve turned the last page. – A.K
